With our ceramic precast walls and twin walls, we already provide products that respond perfectly to more efficient processes and techniques in the construction world. Therefore, a few years ago we focused on developing a basement wall system that does away with the disadvantages of the traditional approach. With success, because in 2019 we were able to present the Uniwall.
Uniwall is a semiprefab technique developed to perform waterproof and load-bearing basement walls with a single shell against all types of soil retaining techniques such as secant piles, berliner walls, soilmix walls, etc. with a single shell.
This single shell is a semi-prefab solution where the space between the soil retaining technology and the Uniwall still needs to be concreted. After the core concrete is poured between the shoring and the prefabricated shell, a watertight whole is created that looks beautiful. After all, the concrete elements are perfectly suited as a finishing wall of the basement.
During the development process of the Uniwall, monitoring made an important contribution. Indeed, thanks to sensors that measure concrete pressure, deformation and temperature, we gained remarkable insight into the formwork pressures, prevented shrinkage and thermal deformation of this revolutionary basement wall system.
In collaboration with KU Leuven and the WTCB, we conducted research into prevented shrinkage.
According to the current calculation model, the prevented shrinkage reinforcement should only be dimensioned at the level of the connection of the floor slab with the basement wall.
However, our investigation shows that this model is inadequate. Over the entire height/configuration of the basement wall, multiple foreclosures were identified. Based on these measurement results, the design and implementation process of our Uniwalls were further optimized.
